Fourth graders from Whitaker Elementary recently visited the National Underground Museum and Freedom Center to participate in a self-guided scavenger hunt with the help of parent chaperones. Mrs. Knight’s, Mr. Hutchinson’s, Mrs.Huber’s, Mr. Dirr’s, Mrs. Smith’s and Mr. Duke’s classes learned about Aminah Brenda-Lynn Robinson’s RagGonNon a “three dimensional cloth painting made from found-objects: fabric, beads, shells, leaves, ties, and much more.”
The Ohio State Board of Education commended Brent Elementary School for earning an Overall “A” Award and provided a banner to be displayed in the school. Have you ever heard of a book tasting? No, well feast your taste buds on this. Finneytown Secondary Media Center offered a book tasting for sixth graders that allowed them to test different genres and levels of books. Students were seated at neatly set tables with specific genres of books, like non-fiction, fantasy, science fiction, romance, and more. Each table had a different genre of books that included a host of different authors for the tasting. Students were instructed to …

In February, 35 Finneytown High School students attended the Scholastic Regional Winners Art Exhibition at the Art Academy of Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine campus, where they were able to view the 19 pieces that received recognition through Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana. The Finneytown Houses on the Secondary Campus have begun recognizing students of the month from each house. Mentor teachers have nominated students from each house who reflect the five pillars: Be present, Be kind, Be a leader, Be accountable, and Remember the “why”.
