Day 22 – Gratitude

Day 22 Gratitude – tnoe@finneytown.org – Finneytown Local School District Mail

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” Denis Waitley
Hi Terri,
This week’s Gratitude Thought comes from a subscriber who shares a powerful illustration that shows that no matter what happens to you, you can find a way to respond with gratefulness. Here is Pat’s story:

“We grew up with a single mom, and we barely scraped by. My mom grew up in Tennessee with a single mom and had less than we did. I turned out to be a single mom and scraped by for a long time. But I worked hard to keep climbing up by being grateful every day for what I did have.

My mom said never to want what someone else has, and you will never be disappointed. So I have just made a point no matter how bad life gets, I remind myself that it could be worse. I refuse to be jealous or envious. When I need to be sad or feel sorry for myself (which we all do) I make sure I do it alone, and as my mom always said, I pull up my big girl panties and move on.

“I have now been married for almost 20 years to a great guy, and I am grateful every day. I have worked for my employer for 43 years and am very thankful to have had this job. When you spoke at our company’s seminar, it was so nice to listen to someone else who is just happy for whatever life gives us.

“I still have issues with grief over losing my mom, sometimes really bad, but I allow myself a day or two, and then that’s it, I get up and go on. I do not keep a journal, but I remind myself daily to be happy and grateful.”

Pat shows us that you always have a choice as to your response. And gratitude is a fantastic emotion to choose.

Have fun,
Lisa
