This week involved a Paypal nightmare that got resolved through the power of persistence. Here’s what happened, I paid a contractor in another country for a project she was working on for me. Instead of paying her in her country’s currency, she requested US dollars – easy enough, or so I thought. I paid her the amount of her currency – but in US Dollars, which was fifty times more than I was supposed to pay. An honest mistake, but a HUGE error. My contractor returned the money to me, but there were fees taken out on both ends that added up to more than $200.
For two days I was in constant communication with Paypal, each time hitting a brick wall and getting a hard “No, we don’t refund fees.”
Because I wasn’t taking “no” for an answer, a Paypal customer service rep name David, from Dublin, took the time to look at my case and all that transpired. He called me on the phone, reviewed my information and turned returned my fees. My shattered faith is now restored.
When you take the time to fully understand your client’s issue and do whatever you can do to make it right, it goes a long way in cementing long-term relationships. I’m grateful for David and other customer service reps like him who truly care about what they do.
What can you do today to make someone else’s day a little brighter?
