|“Meditation provides a way of learning how to let go. As we sit, the self we’ve been trying to construct and make into a nice, neat package continues to unravel.” – John Welwood |
This year I made a lot of resolutions – and so far, so good. Of course, we’re only ten days into the month, but I feel good. Yes, I did the traditional resolutions – exercise more and eat right – but this year I decided to incorporate ten minutes of meditation every morning.
I downloaded the Calm app and every morning “The Daily Calm” shows up. It’s ten minutes of just sitting, focusing on the breath, and listening to positive words of affirmation. I never thought I had time in the morning to meditate, but I found that when you make the time, even if it’s only ten minutes, you can actually get it done.
I read a quote that you should meditate for thirty minutes every day, and if you’re too busy to do that, then you should meditate for an hour. Great advice – and right now I’m doing what works for me, which is ten minutes.
Can I feel the difference? Well, considering I spent three hours today going back and forth to the Social Security Administration office (for my dad), and kept my sense of calm, I would say YES!
Give yourself the gift of a few minutes of stillness today. There are plenty of resources – especially on YouTube – where you can find whatever kind of meditation you want.
PS – Yes, I know it’s Friday. Yesterday got away from me (but I still took the time to meditate!)
