Brent Elementary Students Field Trip for Pumpkins

In early October, Brent Elementary students and teachers enjoyed a short fall field trip to Uncle Bill’s Garden Center. Uncle Bill and his staff graciously welcomed the students and taught about the different types of pumpkins and gourds. He provided some fun facts for the students – Did you know that gourds were used for practical purposes like baby rattles, spoons and candle holders? Did you know that no matter what size a pumpkin is that it takes the same amount of time to grow? (90-120 days)

Students enjoyed perusing the garden center to look at and touch all of the different pumpkins and gourds. Uncle Bill made a mini ‘pumpkin patch’ just for Brent students; so before walking back to school, each student picked out a pumpkin of his/her own. The local partnership with Uncle Bill’s is one of the important connections that Finneytown Local Schools has with area businesses. “Students were grinning from ear to ear when they returned to school with their pumpkins! We are very grateful to Uncle Bill and his staff for accommodating our students and staff,” stated Meredith Baker, Brent Elementary Principal.
