2019-2020 school year almost here!

Happy summer fantastic Finneytown Families,                                                                                                August 7, 2019

This is what I sent out to families and staff today but wanted to include it here as well.

I hope you are having fun and getting some rest. Summer is flying by, and students return in 2 weeks on Wednesday, August 21st and Thursday. August 22nd. Check out our website at www.finneytown.org. The article Upcoming Dates has the staggered start information. Just click Read More for details.

The entire district, including all buildings, will be closed on Monday, August 19th and Tuesday, August 20th for staff training in Restorative Practices (RP). You will hear more in the coming year about RP. We will have some parent information meetings as we get into the school year. We need to get all staff trained so we can be ready to start the year. RP will help us build healthy relationships between adults and students. It will help reduce, prevent, and improve harmful behavior. It will help us repair harm and restore positive relationships. It will also help us resolve conflict, holding individuals and groups accountable. RP will allow us to address the needs of our school community. It is going to be an exciting year!

We’ve had staff retire, move, or go to other districts. We’ve hired amazing new staff members and moved others around to meet the needs of our students. Here is a quick rundown.

There are many changes as you can see, but it has helped us get the right people in the positions to best serve our students. We are very excited for the year to begin!

Quick updates:

At the Brent fields you may notice that the modular units are gone! You might also notice two new electronic scoreboards. Thanks to the Finneytown Boosters, Baseball and Softball have very nice scoreboards! We appreciate all the Boosters do for our students!

One important note. Please do not park cars with “For Sale” signs on the gravel in front of the fields on Winton Road  at Brent. I have to call people all the time to ask them to be moved because it isn’t allowed. Please feel free to pass that on.

The Secondary Campus Gym seems to have stopped leaking, finally. Let’s hope this repair works through the winter as well. Thank you to Mr. Lantz, our Business Manager, for finding the fix.

On Saturday, August 10th, volunteers from Northminster Church descend on all campuses to help clean and spruce up the schools! From 9-11 am, you will see people spreading mulch, painting, and washing windows among other tasks. This group comes to our rescue every year and takes care of so many tasks for us. They partner with us during the school year to bring Whiz Kids to Whitaker students and support us in so many ways. We are so fortunate to have such caring and dedicated partners! Anyone who wants to volunteer is welcome to come on over. We will find something for you to do to match your skills and ability!

Our Second Annual Community Outreach will take place on Tuesday, August 13th. Staff will Tour neighborhoods on buses, then get out and walk around to say hello to students and families from 5-7 pm. Then, everyone is invited to the Secondary Campus at 7-8 pm for a Back to School Bash. There will be hot dogs and entertainment! Come and join us as we celebrate a brand new year beginning! It is going to be the best year ever!

Respectfully,

Terri Noe
